Go Horse – Discovering the legendary warrior virgins: THE VALKYRIES

Nowadays, it is a name that evokes the figure of an attractive girl of Nordic origin, especially in the male imagination. The Valkyries belong to the Nordic legends and typical mythology of Scandinavian , to be exact. They were really beautiful: statuesque bodies and very long blond hair, authentic warrior virgins . The Valkyries were sent by Odin , King of the Gods, to the places where the battle raged to ignite the fighting and to choose the warriors destined for a glorious death: the Einherii. From the battlefields, the Virgins-warriors, in leather armor and plumed helmets, led the spirits of the valiant warriors, dead during the battles, to Walhalla , Odin’s house, in Asgard . The term Walkyrie has its origin from wal, which means battle and from kryan, which means to choose.

After the battle, the Valkyries led the spirits of the valiant warriors through the Golden Forest of Glasor and led them in front of Odin, in Walhalla. Here the Warriors ate the Sadhrimmnir boar (male pig) and drank mead from the Heidrun goat to be strong and make themselves invincible. Every day, under the leadership of the Valkyries, the Warriors fought to prepare themselves for the great final battle, hard and without quarter, which they had to face when the end of the world would come. Odin himself participated in those fights riding his horse Sleipnir with his great spear Gungnir. The names of these Virgins-warrior were had a warlike nature: Gun, Hild, Hrend, … The name of Brunhild is more known, of course, but only because it was born from the genius of R. Wagner who composed music and libretto to his breathtaking work “The Valkyries”, inspired by the mythology of the Nibelung people.
