Go Horse – Here you are some curiosities concerning the Arabian Thoroughbred

The Arabian Thoroughbred is truly unique and distinctive. It has very ancient origins that seem to date back to more than 4000 years ago. From the discovery of some frescoes it can be deduced that horses with these features already existed in Egypt in 2000 BC . Its origins so far in time and the particular features that characterize it make the Arabian Thoroughbred an ethereal, almost magical horse. In fact, very fascinating legends have been handed down around the birth of the Arabian horse: according to the Arabs, for example, for whom these horses are a source of great pride and wealth, it was Allah who, with a handful of South Wind, gave birth to the Arabian Thoroughbred. Judging by the physical characteristics and aptitudes of this horse, we could really believe that it went like this: it is fast (like the wind), agile , resistant, lively. Its head is small with evident veins under the short, thin and shiny coat. Its nostrils are wide and dilated and help to give identity to the distinctive snub profile. Its ears are small and curved and its eyes are large and expressive, while its neck is very arched.

But the real great oddity is that the Arab race, unlike other horses, has 17 ribs , 5 lumbar vertebrae and 16 caudals (horses normally have 18 ribs, 6 lumbar vertebrae and 18 caudals) and this particularity affects the bearing of the tail (long) and the movement in general which is very soft and almost floating. The gray coat is very common, but there are also the sorrel, the bay and the black morello (the roan is rare). During its very long history it has had to survive unfavorable environmental conditions, bloody battles and very heavy work rates. Natural selection, combined with the perhaps even more rigid one made by men, led to the Arabian Thoroughbred we know today. It is no coincidence, therefore, that the disciplines in which it excels the most are speed and endurance (it is in fact very strong in endurance ), but it is also sought in equestrian tourism and other disciplines thanks to its great versatility that is combined with its extraordinary beauty.
