Escaramuza charra is a Mexican sport that was born in the years of the revolution. It consists of a group of women on horseback , usually between 10 and 16 years old, who make the horses “dance” to the rhythm of music and a lot of choreographies. One of the fundamental elements is clothing : in fact, every member of the group must dress in the same way according to the representation. Let’s recall that the latter is also a symbol of the emancipation of women, whom acquired the right to participate in the battle by riding a horse during the war.
These shows, not particularly touristy and still “real”, can be found in the Xcaret area, in the Yucatan peninsula; a moment of fun full of history, culture, traditions, music and joy.
