Catalonia: Between sea and mountains 2021

Arrival at Girona airport (pick-up at 19.30 at the Information Office) (or at Barcelona airport transfer upon request for a fee - pick up Terminal 1 at Café Jamaica) and transfer to Can Muni, a nice little 15th century village with stone houses. Dinner with the rest of the group and the guide, overnight in this delightful small country hotel.

We will begin our adventure by discovering the countryside dotted with small traditional villages that alternate with lush forests. For lunch, break in Pontos, at the "Torre dell’Angelo". Continue in the afternoon to Vilanant, where we will have dinner and overnight in an ancient property that belonged to Count Rocaberti.

From here we will begin our ascent into the Pyrenees, but not before having enjoyed long gallops in a flat area planted with vineyards and olive trees. Along the course of the Muga River, we will stop for a quick lunch and if time permits we will have the opportunity to cool off. In the afternoon we will begin to climb up to Cantallops, in the Mediterranean Pyrenees, where the best hotel in the area awaits us for dinner and overnight.

Today the track winds through the Pyrenees and we will cross the most beautiful areas of the Empordà area. We will ride mainly at the pass due to the winding paths and in some places we should accompany our horse by hand. We will pass by the proud 11th-century fortress of Recasens and upon arriving at the top of the mountains we will stop for lunch, with an incredible view of the coast at Cap de Creus. Dinner and overnight in a small traditional hotel in the mountains.

Leaving the altitudes we will cross the Empordà plains, among olive trees and vineyards and passing through towns such as Garriguella and Vilanova de la Muga. Break for lunch in Castillo de Empuries, a small medieval town that was once the capital of Empordà. In the afternoon, brisk pace to reach Sant Pere Pescador, where we will spend the night in an old house by the sea.

Breakfast and an electrifying start to the day with long gallops on the beach. We will arrive in l'Escala and then continue on the Montgri massif, a mountainous area that separates the Upper Empordà area from the Lower one, well protected, rocky areas, whose walls are thrown into the Mediterranean Sea. Break for lunch overlooking the Bay of Roses and back down to the town of Estartif, where we will spend the night.

Our route today will bring us back to our starting point in Can Muni. Morning at a fast pace and I arrive in time for a lunch of typical dishes. Afternoon dedicated to relaxation. Last dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Breakfast and transfer to Girona airport with departure at 9.30 am from the hotel. Arrival in Girona at 10.30 (or to Barcelona on request for a fee).
