An all-round holiday to discover the most scenic areas of Costa Rica on horseback … magnificent landscapes inhabited by a multitude of native fauna. We will ride through canyons carved over millennia by rivers to the arid coast of the Pacific Ocean and its beautiful beaches. Then again along the slopes of the Template mountain, passing through the mystical valley of the cloud forest and then descending towards the majestic Arenal volcano.

Arrival at Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José (SJO), meeting with our correspondents and transfer to a hotel near the airport (or if you are already in San José pick-up from your hotel). Free dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast and transfer to Cien Fuegos, for Cien Fuegos Eco-Ranch & amp; Stables, located near the bank of the Trinidad River, in the dry region of the central Pacific, where our adventure will start. Presentation of the program and assignment of the horses and then leave for a half day in the saddle towards Hacienda La Maravilla, through rolling hills, plains and the Galleria Forest, along the banks of the Cuarros river. First of the three nights we will spend at Maravilla House Lodge, surrounded by a wonderful landscape and typical Costa Rican atmosphere.
Day dedicated to the exploration of the beautiful Pacific coast and Tivives Crag, the first landing point of the Spaniards, who from here began their conquest in 1561. Depending on the tides, lunch on the beach, picnic or in a local restaurant. 'Hacienda Maravilla for dinner and overnight.
Discover the private reserve that surrounds the hacienda: a 1000-acre estate made up of hills and forests populated by a lot of fauna.
There will be splendid views of the Pacific Ocean. Return to the hacienda for lunch and a little relaxation. In the afternoon, if you want , you can return to the saddle to explore the southern part of the estate. Dinner and overnight.
Today we will ride towards the Machuca River basin, passing through the village of Cascajal. Then the basin of the Jesús María river, a fertile valley used above all for the cultivation of melons. After the lunch break, transfer by 3 and a half hours to the northern part of the region and the Arenal volcano, which erupted for the last time in 1968, and which remains the most active volcano in the world. Dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, short transfer of about half an hour to the town of El Silencio, on the slopes of the volcano, from where we will leave for a 2 and a half hour guided walking tour through nature. if you are luckly, you will have the opportunity to see some specimens of monkeys and countless birds, including the toucan. At the end of the walk a refreshing drink and time to take photos from a magnificent viewpoint of the volcano and the coast. In the afternoon, free time to bathe in the hot thermal spring. Free dinner and overnight stay.
Morning available for relaxation, free time and extra activities: zipline, mountain bike, canoeing, canoeing. In the afternoon transfer to San José. Free dinner and an overnight stay in hotel.

EQUIPMENT: ENGLISH, WESTERN or MCCLELLAN SADDLE (typical saddle used by the American Armed Forces during the civil war in the second half of the 19th century).
HORSES: CREOLES, chosen for their noble temperament and comfort of gaits, are used to work with livestock, for rodeos, traditional festivals and dressage. A combination of Andalusian, Berber and Paso Peruvian blood.
GAIT: 4 to 6 hours per day in the saddle. We proceed to the three gaits. Skill in handling the horse in open spaces is required.

ACCOMMODATION:
2 nights in a hotel in San José.
3 nights at Hacienda Maravilla: a lodge on an estate of over 1500 acres, used for plantations and cattle breeding. Surrounded by beautiful forests, this family-run lodge has an authentic atmosphere. Furnished in wood, spacious rooms (shared bathroom for every two rooms) with fan and stylish decorations. Guests have access to a common area where they can spend the evenings chatting, barbecue, swimming pool, hammocks.
2 nights in Arenal Montechiari: delightful air-conditioned cottages set in a lush tropical garden. Located 400 meters from the park of La Fortuna, it offers its guests a swimming pool, wi-fi area, TV and tea and coffee making facilities, restaurant and bar.
