Crete: Cretan panoramas 2021
Crete is the island of the sun; surrounded by the sparkling blue sea, with its mountains and olive trees expanses, it is the perfect compendium for a holiday in the saddle. Beautiful landscapes, historical sites, good food, tranquility and serenity.
Once you arrive on the island, you will look out over the Langada Valley and the Apposelemis river which is lost between the bases of the peaks of the Dikti mountains, surrounded by forests. This scenario offers unlimited possibilities for beautiful trekking on horseback, among small villages nestled in the Cretan nature.
Departure dates on request all year round with a minimum of 2 people departing from Italy (excluding the months of July and August).

Arrival at Kazantzakis International Airport (HER), pick-up from the airport (to be paid on the spot on request) and transfer to your hotel. Time available for relaxation in the pool, tour of the stables. Dinner with your guide and overnight at the hotel.
After having breakfast,we will be on the saddle to visit the archaeological site of the old city of Lyttos with a beautiful view of the Kastelli valley. The city was a rival of Knossos, the city army participated in the Trojan war and the city was mentioned by Homer as Liktos. In the Roman period it reached great splendor with its acropolis, theater and aqueduct, of which we will see the remains. We will spend about 4 hours onthe saddle. Overnight at the hotel.
We will leave today heading north towards the hills of Sfendili. We will pass the Byzantine church of Avdou and the plateau of Mochos overlooking the Psiloritis mountains, whose highest peak measures 2500 meters. Overnight at the hotel.
Riding around the artificial lake of Aposelemis, created in 2015 with the creation of a dam. With its 3 km in length, the lake attracts an incredible amount of animals of all kinds. We will ride along the banks to the uninhabited village of Sfendily, half submerged. Overnight at Hotel.
Today will be a soft day on the saddle, only about 2 and a half hours to reach a panoramic point on the Langada Valley. We will ride through an oak forest and visit the mysterious Saint Fotini church. Overnight at Hotel.
Breakfast and departure for the Gonies gorges, from which we will begin the climb to reach the beautiful village of Kera at 800 meters. Lunch at the typical Niki restaurant before descending and returning to the stable.
Last day on the saddle through a wide valley dotted with olive trees and cypress forests. Overnight at Hotel.
Breakfast and transfer (on request to be paid locally) to the airport.

GAIT: 3 TO 5 HOURS PER DAY IN THE SADDLE (4 on average). The gait will be evaluated based on the equestrian level of the group and / or the person. We will proceed mainly to the pass but there will be the possibility of gallops.

ACCOMMODATION:
7 nights at Country Hotel Veláni ****, offers 12 rooms divided into 2 separate buildings from the main building with private balcony, wi-fi, hairdryer. The neo-classical style hotel was built with natural stones and in a splendid position on the Langada Valley and the colorful peaks of the Dikti mountains. In the main building there is a bar and restaurant with typical cuisine. Spring water pool available.
Not far away there are 14 stables with open and covered fields, equipped saddlery.
Dinners at the typical à la carte restaurant, 2 lunches at the restaurant and the rest for picnics (drinks not included).
Meals included from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 8. A la carte dinner including starter, main course and side dish. Cuisine at km 0 thanks to the vegetable garden and orchards and olive groves owned by the hotel. Dessert, wine and coffee not included.
