Imperial cities 2021
Before the Arabs arrived, these lands were inhabited by the Berbers, who populated the territory living in agglomerations that could hardly be considered real cities. With the spread of the Muslim cult, the model of urban agglomeration of the medina was established. Fes, Marracheck, Rabat and Meknes are defined “Imperial Cities”, because of the various dynasties that followed one another transformed four of these cities into something more sumptuous through the construction of palaces, mosques and fortified walls.

Arrival in Rabat, and autonomous transfer to the Bouregreg hotel. The meeting with our correspondent is scheduled for h. 20.00 in Rabat at the hotel. Having the opportunity to arrive early, we recommend a visit to the Medina, the gardens of Oudaiya and the Hassan tower. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in a standard double room.
After having breakfast, departure by car for Meknes, where your horses await you for the start of the trek.
You will start through a myriad of small villages, cornfields and olive groves on the mountain of Zerhoun, from which you will enjoy a splendid view over the city of Meknes.
In the afternoon we will arrive in Volubilis, an ancient Roman city, with ruins of ancient splendor, temples and mosaics. The mobile camp will be set up not far away, in the shade of some olive trees, where you will eat and sleep under the stars.
Through a landscape that could be defined almost lunar, you will reach the top of the mountain of Zegota, up to Moulay Idriss and the sources of Nzala Des Ben Ammar. Mobile camp set up under the olive trees.
You will continue through what are called the "white mountains"; here time seems stopped, you will observe how agriculture is done entirely by hand. The day continues passing through the Oued Mikkes area and many small Arab villages. The mobile camp will be set up on top of a cool mountain.
You will enter the area called "Death Valley", so called because it is crossed by a river whose water is so salty that it is totally useless for irrigation, for animals or for humans. We will then arrive in the city of Fes, where we will leave the horses and enter the city by car to be able to visit the Medina, the Souk and the famous Moulay Idris II Mausoleum and the impressive Karaouin mosque. Dinner in the medina and overnight at Riad El Yacout or similar.
Starting from Fes, you will pass through areas that are very different from those seen up to now, but still interesting. Lunch at a source of drinking water and in the afternoon crossing the first part of the famous Atlas Mountains, where you will stay overnight.
The trek continues through the hills until you return to the stables in the afternoon, where you will greet your trusty travel companions not without melancholy. You will have the opportunity to make a short visit to Meknes, from where you will then be taken to Rabat, for dinner and overnight.
Breakfast and independent transfer to the airport in time for your return flight.

It is true that horses are known for being able to sleep standing up but, like all equidae, they also sleep sitting or lying on their side, especially on fresh and clean straw, in which they love to roll. The reasons why equidae are able to sleep standing up are mainly two, anatomical and neurological […]
