Merchants with their caravans used these ancient tracks over 2000 years ago, and along the way we will find traces of the Roman Empire, Ottoman, medieval times as well as the Second World War. This will be a journey back in time, through a land full of mysticism, intricate myths and legends that will accompany us through the wild and beautiful nature, where only sporadic villages and ancient ruins emerge from the green.

Schedule a flight to Tirana arriving by early afternoon. Meeting with correspondents and transfer by minivan to Gjirokastra which is 250 km away. After about 3 and a half hours you will arrive in the city, check in and welcome snack. In the afternoon visit to the historic center, the bazzar and weather permitting, the castle, the church and the mosque. Dinner at a traditional restaurant and travel illustration.
Breakfast and all on horseback through the countryside with a very varied landscape: hills, valleys, rivers. We will pass near many small villages and local farms, the ruins of the castle of Santa Triada, a control base on the merchant caravans. Picnic lunch and arrival in the village of Karjan, already inhabited in medieval times, in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay with the family.
Departure following the track, which winds through beautiful mountainous landscapes, to the north. Once in the village of Labova, we will make a stop to visit the church. Vangjel Zhapa, the organizer of the first Olympic Games, was born here. We will continue among the endemic vegetation: mountain tea, wild roses and oregano up to the Cajupi valley, where we will have a picnic under the trees and drink from a famous spring, a crossroads of caravans. We will continue along the old medieval tracks to the village of Nderan, in the heart of the Zagoria region, where we will rest for two nights. Famous place for the delicacy of its honey and its typical products. Dinner and overnight stay with families.
Hearty mountain breakfast before riding along the most important trade track in southern Albania. Beautiful is the rock formation of Zhej, the church of Hoshteva with its many pagan elements and the interesting Liliar basin rebuilt by Alì Pasha. We will pass over a medieval bridge that connects an old monastery to Nderan, where we will spend another beautiful family evening.
Electrifying morning, with wide valleys for long gallops. Crossing the Pogoni region will be a real journey into the past: Byzantine monuments, old bridges and ruins that dot the area. We will arrive in the late afternoon to the village of Polican, inhabited by a curious Greek minority. You will have time to wander among the medieval monuments before a delicious dinner.
Again mountains, rivers and beautiful forests until you reach the top of Swallow Rock from which you can see the Suha River. Stop for lunch next to the oldest church in Albania, the Church of Labora, whose construction is said to date back to 554 at the behest of Emperor Justinian. In the afternoon we will arrive at the town of Libohova, at the foot of Mount Bureto, a very ancient human settlement, today the residence of a noble family. Typical dinner and overnight stay with the family.
We recommend an early wake up call to be able to enjoy a sunrise that illuminates the valley. You will have time for a walking tour of the village before you hop on the saddle and reach the Antigonea National Park after about three hours. The story of the monuments you will encounter will be very interesting. In the afternoon we will return to Gjirokastra. Last dinner in a typical restaurant in the bazaar and overnight in Babameto as the first evening.
Breakfast and transfer to Tirana airport or Saranda port.
