Riding on volcanoes 2021
The breathtaking beauty of the Andes experienced on horseback… this trek will offer you a different adventure every day through mountains and valleys. We will meet the friendly “chagras”, the local horsemen who- on break from work- will be eager to tell you their stories and traditions. We will discover the Corazon, Ruminahui, Quilindana, Chalupas volcanoes and of course the majestic Cotopaxi. Your only means of transport will be your horse which will take you day after day to discover these beautiful mountains. And in the evening we will be guests of traditional and comfortable haciendas … and around the bonfire, in the evening, it will be nice to tell the adventures of the day.

Pick-up from Quito airport and transfer to Hacienda Alegria. If it's not too late there will be time for a short walk to get to know the horses. Dinner and overnight.
After having breakfast on the saddle to get familiar with the horses and the equipment that we will have to use in the following days. We will ride around the hacienda and the western area of the Andes. Lunch in the hacienda and in the afternoon visit to ancient caves. Dinner and overnight at the hacienda.
Today we will cross eucalyptus forests and vast pastures with a beautiful view of what is called “Volcanoe Avenue”, overlooking the green and fertile Machachi Valley. We will climb the slopes of the Corazon volcano up to 4,000 meters to descend through the forest, where we will notice an incredible biodiversity: orchids of all kinds and birds of all varieties. We will arrive in the late afternoon at Hacienda Bomboli at 3000 meters, where we will spend the night. Dinner and overnight at the hacienda.
After having breakfast we will stroll through the gardens of the hacienda, learning the characteristics of different varieties of plants. Then we will continue on horseback through the forest and take the ancient road built in 1873 to connect Quito to the coast. Arrival in Hacienda Alegria in time for lunch, relaxing afternoon. Dinner and overnight in the hacienda.
Today will be a long day on the saddle ... we will be transferred by public transport about an hour south of the hacienda where the horses are waiting for us to start the adventure in the southern Andes. We will take the ancient route of the Inca to arrive at the village of Sigchos, through forests, rocky peaks. After a full day on the saddle we will arrive at Hacienda San Jose, a farm that is also a guest house. We will have time to take a sauna and a jacuzzi before an excellent dinner and a refreshing night.
Breakfast and departure in a southerly direction to the crater of Lake Quilotoa. Descending into the canyon we will notice a different terrain, arid and volcanic, following the eruption of the homonymous volcano 1,280 years ago. We will reach the top of the volcano in the afternoon, at 3,800 meters. Above, our guest awaits us for the night. From this height we will be able to admire the crater of the volcano, 3 km wide, the westernmost of the Ecuatorian Andes. Dinner and overnight at the hostel.
Time to take a few more photos of the magnificent landscape before getting back on the saddle . we will reach the Canyon in half a day, passing through villages that look like a postcard. Low density area given the poverty of the soil. We will arrive at a small village called Insilivi, founded in 1857, where we will spend the night. Dinner and overnight at the hostel.
Last day on the saddle until returning to Hacienda Alegria for the last night.
Breakfast and transfer to the airport in time for your flight to Italy.
