The Andes on horseback. This journey will take us to the heart of the Western Andes, on a mountain itinerary full of challenges but above all of great satisfaction. The most untouched nature is waiting for you: forests, deserts, rivers and valleys… an incredible geological and climatic variety accompanied by the ancient history of the pre-Inca populations who inhabited these places.

Pick-up from Quito airport and transfer to the hotel. Free dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast and hotel pick-up at 12.00. We will drive through the western part of the Cordillera towards the Pululahua volcano and its forests with ever-changing microclimates. Pause at the interesting Equator Museum and in the late afternoon on horseback for an unforgettable experience of trekking in the dark under the stars to explore the surroundings of the crater. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Breakfast and departure on horseback to explore the crater surroundings in daylight. It is the largest and most geologically interesting crater in the entire American continent. Upon return to the hotel, a relaxing Jacuzzi, dinner and overnight stay.
We will leave the forests surrounding the volcano to enter ancient canyons carved by lava millennia ago. We will arrive at the Rio Blanco valley, with a mild and tropical climate, full of sugar cane plantations and coffee trees. We will pass by the ancient fortress of Portalanza to arrive at the beautiful farm that will host us for the night in its delightful solar-powered bungalows. Dinner and overnight.
Breakfast and departure to discover the beautiful valley of the Guayllabamba river: adventurous climbs, long gallops in the open spaces and spectacular canyons. We will meet various proofs of the pre-Inca civilizations that built their cities and temples in these areas. Return to the hotel in the afternoon, dinner and overnight.
Breakfast and saddle towards Portalanza, through lush tropical fruit plantations. Today we will enjoy open views over valleys and mountains. Return to the hotel in the afternoon, dinner and overnight.
Today a more relaxing ride is waiting for us, with easier slopes that will allow us to relax our legs a little. We will cross beautiful bamboo forests going higher and higher, up to our eco-lodge, charming cottages born from a self-sustaining project. Dinner and overnight.
Chance to visit a small village and learn about how they make cheese and jams. Then, everyone on horseback on the traces of the ancient history of the Toucan. Dinner and overnight in Pelagallo, in a delightful family-run guest house.
Last day in the saddle, return to the ranch in the afternoon and transfer by public transport to Quito for free dinner and overnight.
Breakfast and transfer to the airport in time for your flight to Italy.

EQUIPMENT: ENGLISH SADDLE, VAQUERA OR COLOMBIAN SADDLES
HORSES: CRIOLLO, PASO FINO, PINTO, ANGLO-ARABS robust and accustomed to mountain terrain
GAIT: 3 to 6 hours per day in the saddle. Moderate speed with mostly mountainous terrain through the Andes; however, there will be the possibility of trots and gallops. The collaboration of the riders is required for saddling / unsaddling operations. In case someone is tired it is possible to reach the next stage with the support vehicles.
MINIMUM AGE : 14 years
TYPE : itinerant with overnight stays in lodge / hotel
Accommodation in hotel in Quito and lodge / eco-lodge during the trek. Charming family-run structures are selected, surrounded by nature. In some cases it is possible that the bathroom is shared.
