Horseback riding in Siberia: the Altai Mountain Range
Almost 5,000 kilometers east of Moscow there is a territory that not even the Russians know well… it is Siberia. Its few inhabitants actually have everything they need to survive, plus the exhilarating scenery of the Altai Mountains. Horses will take us through dense forests, plateaus, rugged passes and grasslands so tall that it is hard to see beyond… perhaps with a little luck we will be able to spot Mongolian hunters looking for their prey high in the mountains. An adventure crowned by warm hospitality and great food prepared in the middle of nowhere, plus the exciting rafting program on the Katune River.

Expect an arrival in the morning; transfer of about 45 minutes from Gorno-Altaisk airport or 4 hours from Barnaul. Arrival at the camp which is located about 200 km from the border with Mongolia. Time available for relaxation or a nice walk in the surrounding mountains. Presentation dinner and overnight at the camp.
Transfer of about two hours to the semi-mobile camp of typical yurt tents from where our adventure in the saddle will start. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
We will leave for the mountains, where we will find ourselves in the midst of absolutely untouched nature. We may run into hunters or people with cattle. Every day we will do a different route and we will go to different heights up to 2300 meters, the terrain and temperatures will vary. The material for setting up the camp and transporting luggage will be loaded onto pack horses. We will cross a multitude of different landscapes through the Sumultinski mountain range, from forests to tundra and in the background we will always see the beautiful snowy peaks. With a little luck, we will meet wild boars and even bears. At the end of the ninth day we will say goodbye to the horses and with the means we will continue to another side of the Altai mountains. Overnight stays in the mobile camp.
With a minibus we will go to the Chulyschmann river and return to “civilization”; in fact, in recent years this has become a very touristy area among locals and you can enjoy various outdoor activities on the shores of Lake Telezker, as well as visiting a traditional village. Possibility of a sauna, dinner and overnight stay in the lodge.
Day dedicated to visiting the Altai National Museum and time to do some shopping. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
