Western Cape: the Wineries region 2021
Cape Town, the “mother city” defined by South Africans .. and north of this, the beautiful vineyard area, with its well-known towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl with their incredible Dutch charm, the latter settled here in late seventeenth century, founding settlements with a wholly Western flavor. This is the area defined as the “wineries”, beautiful hills and even more beautiful private farms where you can taste the excellent South African wine, all on horseback. An exclusive stop not to be missed for those who decide to visit the Cape peninsula and a perfect relaxing break before diving into the multicultural Cape Town.
Departure dates available on request all year round with a minimum of 1 person departing from Italy.
Start any day of the week.
PARTICIPANTS: MIN 2 MAX 8
Arrive independently in time for lunch (or pick-up at the airport on request) and transfer to the wineries area which is about 50 km away, lunch (if the flight time allows it, otherwise it will be the last day ) and in the afternoon first outing on horseback. Free time to relax before dinner and overnight at the farm.
After having breakfast, everyone on the saddle through the long rows full of grapes. We will enjoy beautiful views over the Paarl Valley. We will then follow the hills of Simonsberg Mountain towards Anura Wine Estate, a very long track that will allow us to enjoy a nice sustained gallop. Tasting at the Anura estate, before moving on to the delightful à la carte restaurant. We will return around 4pm, and have time for a dip in the pool before a delicious dinner prepared by local chefs. Overnight in the farm.
Now in perfect harmony with our horse, we will face another day on the saddle: Forest of pine and eucalyptus trees that open onto beautiful views of the Paarl and Franschhoek valley. Stop at Backsberg, another internationally renowned estate. Wine tasting and lunch in the beautiful open-air restaurant (if the weather conditions permit). Return in the afternoon with a view of the mountain. Lunch in a local restaurant and overnight at the farm.
Today we will go to less cultivated areas passing through orchards and vineyards, at a gallop or at a pace it doesn't matter, it will still be an exciting morning that will lead us to another tasting followed by lunch. Free afternoon for ralax, for a round of golf or a visit to the historic towns of Stellenbosch, Franschhoek or Paarl, 10 and 20 minutes away. Dinner in a local restaurant and overnight stay in the farm. Alternatively, one-day excursions are proposed (to be paid on the spot): horse trekking with picnic on the beach; Cape of Good Hope, with a visit to a colony of penguins and Table Mountain; cage diving to observe sharks.
Full day in the saddle riding towards the east of Simonsberg. Long gallops along the tracks between majestic eucalyptus trees to the beautiful Plaisir de Merle farm, where we will stop for lunch. This magnificent farm, dating back to 1693, produces world famous wines. We will enjoy a tasting accompanied by cheeses and dried meat, in the shade of centuries-old oaks. Returning home we will pass through peach and plum orchards. For informal barbecue dinner, called braai in South Africa and overnight on the farm.
