The Limpopo Region: South Africa & Botswana
Horseback Safari in South Africa and Botswana, to realise your life dream. Explore the limitless savannah and discover Limpopo Region, which stretches north of South Africa and south of Botswana. You will spend 4 night in South Africa and achieve the adventure in Botswana, where the real Africa comes out, a land sometimes rich and sometimes ruthless. You will find out a land made of touchy and thorny vegetation, which offers shelter and food to its inhabitants, who fight everyday for their lives. The Limpopo Valley is name after the omonymum river that runs through it: it borns in South Africa and ends near Xai-Xai’s Port in Mozambico. Its water has a slow ans sandy run, so Limpopo River is often dry, but it can reveal big and unexpected surprises during rain’s season, when everything reborns and creates a new landscape, made of a myriad of flowers.
You will discover an area that locals call Tuli and the Mashatu private Reserve, known thank to its huge baobabs and its enormous rock formations. A mysterious land, where poignant sunsets await you and as the evening falls, the swarming around your tents will make you dream and tremble under the starry sky.

Pick-up at the airport and scheduled transfer at half past 10 a.m. to Camp Davidson, which is approximately 300 km (about 2 and a half hours) away, and that is located in Limpopo Region, in Waterberg's zone, within a Private Reserve (transfers in different times are available on request). Lunch and, in the afternoon, first horseback riding safari for a couple of hours. Dinner and overnight in a tent camp.
Are expected two horseback riding per days: at half past 8 a.m. for about 3 hours, and at 5 p.m. for about one and a half hour. The beautiful private reserve, devoted to cattle's breeding, offers the possibilty of spotting wildlife on horseback, without the risk of encountering the "big 5", not presents in the shelter. You will meet a lot of antelopes, zebras, ostrichs, little mammals, hippopotamous and eagles. It is possible to carry out some horse activities: polo cross, a funny local sport, hurdle jumping and cross, a bath with the horses in the lake close to the lodge. Meals and overnights in tent camp.
Breakfast and transfer at half past 9 a.m. for about 4 hours to Botswana. After clearing customs, we will quickly proceed to the stables, where you will know the horses which will accompany you on a discovery of beautiful Limpopo's valley, in the specific area called Tuli, which includes the Mashatsu private reserve and the neighbouring villages. After a fast lunch and breefing, everyone in the saddle for an initial horseback safari to the tent camp. Dinner and overnight in tent camp.
Wake-up at half past 5 a.m. to get on horseback very early to have the possibilty of spotting wildlife before it hides itself due the hot weather. This pretty desert reserve can change a lot during rainy season, when it is covered in green grass and flowers. In the morning there will be a long safari for about 5/6 hours and then return to the camp for lunch. After a well-deserved break, in the afternoon there will be walking or jeep safaris, searching for felines.
Breakfast and transfer to Johannesburg Airport for about 6 hours with scheduled arrive at 6.00 p.m. (alternatively, departure in the afternoon with a charter flight directly from the reserve to the airport, with scheduled arrive at 6.00 p.m.)

Duration of the trip: 8 days / 7 nights
Accomodation: 4 nights at the Davidson tent camp, a semi-fixed tent camp, with comfortable tents, decorated in English Style, with cold and hot water, light powered by solar panels. There is a pool available for guests. The campsiste is about 2 and a half hour away from Johannesburg, in the Waterberg’s zone, in Limpopo’s Region. There is a welcoming common area where are served typical cooking meals, very tasty with a lot of wild meat. It is possible a vegetarian menu on request. Aperitifs and light meals are included.
3 night in a tent camp in Mashatsu reserve in Botswana. It is 5 minutes away from Botswana’s border and 4 hours away from the previous campsite. There are available for guests 5 tents with services, shower and light powered by solar batteries. Common area where are served the meals, bonfire zone, pool with beach chairs.
Equipment: McClellan Saddles, very comfortables, invented by the official George McClellan and used in 1859 USA Civil War. Still in use today, they have the ability to adapt at any horse. Particularly light and comfortable, are perfect to spend many hours in the horseback.
Horses: Crossbreed Horses locally raised. They live in partial freedom, stabled at night. Our guides will certainly find the perfect horse for your abilities.
Strides: About 6 hourse riding. In Sout Africa there will be an excursion in the morning and one in the afternoon, taking advantage of the cooler hours. There will be used the three strides, with longs trots and gallops. Are recommended, in addition to the safaris, other horse activities: polo crosso, jumping, cattle’s work. It’s required to have horses mastery in open spaces and a good physical condition; for those who are less experts, it’s still possible to partecipate in activities, according to own’s capacities. In Botswana there will be a long 6-hours safari in the morning.
Please note: local guides can decide to “dismount” a knight, for his or her safety, if he or she is not at the necessary level to start the safari in Botswana, outside of the protected reserve (there will be a test to be sure about the control of the horse).
Remind: The journey described is to be considered approximate. The guides can decide to modify it, regardless of your willpower. There is the possibility to proceed the journey at Limpopo’s Valley or at Okavango’s River Delta, in Mozambico or any other destination (ask us the rate for your addition).
