Alentejo: the dolphin coast 2021
The one called “Costa Azul” is the least famous.. Here, even in the crowded summer months, it will be possible to discover isolated and beautiful beaches, far from mass tourism. Home of the Rio Sado sanctuary, 57,500 acres of pristine territory where it will be possible to admire the dolphins. From here to the south there are about 50 kilometers of untouched beaches, interrupted only by a few calm lagoons and fishing villages. Come and discover this beautiful area riding the noble Lusitano… from the green coastal mountains of Grandola to the turquoise waters of the Azul coast. A journey full of pleasant experiences: tasty picnics, swimming in the beautiful sea, memorable dinners based on fresh fish, dolphins and wonderful horses!

Pick-up at the airport at 5.30 pm (other times on request) and transfer of about 100 km south to Herdade das Barradas da Serra (or similar), a beautiful rural house in the Grândola region. Dinner and overnight.
First day on the saddle through a hilly landscape up to Santiago do Cacém. on the first day ,you will have the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful character of these horses. Picnic lunch, and after resting we will resume the march through pine forests to get to Quinta da Ortiga, where we will leave the horses and we will have a short transfer by public transport of about 30 minutes to your hotel, Quinta de Malmedra (or similar), for dinner and overnight stay.
Full day on horseback through sweet-smelling eucalyptus forests. Near Morgavel we will stop for a picnic lunch and a bit of relaxation. In the afternoon we will have the chance to gallop on the sandy paths of the Portuguese countryside. Dinner and overnight at the Quinta (or similar).
In the morning or afternoon there will be a 30-minute transfer by public transport to the north, Sado River, for a two-hour boat tour to discover the dolphins that inhabit these waters. The other half day on the saddle will be around the Lagoon of Santa Andre Lagoon, inhabited by flamingos. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Vila Park (or similar).
Today we will ride to the beach (not between June and September 15) at dawn, and we will be able to see the beautiful dunes turn pink. Gallop on the beach before stopping for a picnic lunch in the shade of the pine forest. While the horses are resting, you can take a bath. In the afternoon return, dinner in a local restaurant and overnight at Hotel Vila Park (or similar).
From Melides we will go to Grândola and there will be the possibility of various gallops during the day in the long tracks through the forests. We will return today to Barradas Da Serra, where we can cool off with a dip in the pool before dinner. Dinner and overnight in Herdade das Barradas da Serra (or similar).
Today we will ride from the Sierra de Grândola through a hilly landscape and picturesque villages. Picnic lunch and in the afternoon continuation to Herdade das Barradas da Serra, a beautiful estate in the typical Alentejano style. Farewell dinner and Herdade das Barradas da Serra (or similar).
Breakfast and transfer to the international airport.

HORSES: PUROSANGUE LUSITANO, as famous as its Spanish cousin, the Andalusian, are considered the oldest mares in Europe, predecessors of any breed found today on the American continent. Famous for their beauty, used in high school and also in dressage in the past, until the advent of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) which introduced breeds capable of extending the trot more. However, large horses remain, very fascinating and suitable for equestrian shows.
A NDATURA: FROM 4 TO 6 HOURS PER DAY ON THE SADDLE APPROX. We proceed to the three gaits. The ability to know how to control the horse in open environments is required. Possibility of long gallops on the beach.

Located at the foot of one of the many mountains of Grândola, it offers its guests 10 comfortable rooms furnished in a traditional, warm and welcoming way, swimming pool and restaurant. Quinta de Malmedra
It is located just 2 kilometers from the center of Santiago do Cacem. It offers 12 standard rooms with balcony and 2 suites overlooking the historic city castle. It has a swimming pool, gym, restaurant.
Vila Park Hotel
It is located in Vila Nova de Santo Andre, between the towns of Sines and Santiago do Cacém. It offers 79 modern rooms equipped with every comfort: TV, radio, air conditioning, hairdryer. Equipped with swimming pool and restaurant.
