Siberia: The Altai Mountain Range
Nearly 2,500 kilometers east of Moscow is a territory that even the Russians themselves hardly know. The local populations may seem very poor to Westerners, but the nature of these places offers them everything they need for sustenance. We are located in the Altai mountain range, where Russia meets Kazakhstan, Mongolia and China: here the purest and most evocative landscapes extend as far as the eye can see, and the people who have inhabited these areas for centuries live in total harmony with nature. Altaj represents the heart of Central Asia and, in a remote time, the unspoiled nature of these mountains was considered sacred by nomadic peoples and the local tribes venerated the spirits they saw on the mountains, along the rivers, on the trees, everywhere in the nature around them. Now sanctioned as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, the Altai Mountains are the perfect place for fishing or rafting on glacier-fed rivers, and of course for horse trekking. Our valiant four-legged friends will lead us through dense forests, plateaus, impervious high mountain passes and grasslands with grass so high that it is difficult to see beyond … perhaps with a little luck we will be able to see, camouflaged in the mountainous vegetation, Mongols hunting for small mammals. An authentic adventure, crowned by warm hospitality and great food prepared in the middle of nowhere with aromas wisely collected by our local guides, as well as the exciting rafting program on the Siberian-Chinese Katune river, which originates from the massive Belucha part of the Altai mountain range and which, except for the summer months, is always frozen.

With a little luck, we will meet wild boars and even bears. At the end of the ninth day we will say goodbye to the horses and with the means we will continue to another side of the Altai mountains. Overnight stays in the mobile camp.
