Wyoming: Leading the Herds in the Pryor Mountains 2021
We will be based in a real working ranch, founded in 1898, and which in these long decades has raised thousands and thousands of cattle and quarter horses. We are located 50 miles south of Billings, Montana in peaceful and hilly terrain. From here we will move the steers to the east side of the Pryor Mountains, which run along the Wyoming state line. We will feel like we are stepping back in time as we ride to Lovell, Wyoming, where livestock branding operations are completed. In spring, you pass through a pass, the Bad Pass Trail and the Mustang reserve. In late summer we will spend more time sharing the cattle with the cowboys.

SPRING HERD SHIFT (APRIL-MAY): Our spring shifts run from mid-April to mid-May with four different dates departing from Lovell, Wyoming to finish at the working ranch 50 miles north. On Monday there will be a meeting with the cowboys and we will saddle the horses that are in paddocks near the Shoshone River, in our Lovell farm. By the end of the first day we will have reached the border with Montana where an inspection will take place before we can cross the border the next day. The difficulty will be covering about 50 miles with a large number of cattle, including mothers with calves for four days. We will reach the ranch on Thursday evening, which is located within the Indian reservation, passing through Devil’s Canyon and Deadman’s Creek. The ranch, with traditional structures over 100 years old, has 33,000 acres of land: green hills, immense plains, canyons. On Friday we will check that everyone is in their place and enjoy the view of the surroundings. On Saturday, around 800hrs, we leave by bus to return to Billings in Montana in time for our flight to Italy. AUTUMN CATTLE MEETING (SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER): Three days in the company of our cowboys to gather all the cattle to the pastures, young heads, expectant females and young, to return to the Wyoming farm.
