Royal Ascot 2018, one of the most popular events in the world, is scheduled from 19 to 23 June. Ascot Racecourse, England is almost ready to host the highlight of the European horse racing season, Royal Ascot. It was founded by Queen Anne in 1711 and eleven monarchs have taken part in it to date. Queen Elizabeth never fails to cut the ribbon. The race always starts at 14 o’clock. The event has a rigid and well-defined dress code . For women, knee-length skirts and an obligation to have a belt or waistband and in case pants are worn, they must be strictly ankle-length and the colors in line with the Royal Enclosure. For men, on the other hand, a black or gray formal day suit and top hat is mandatory, which can only be removed in the restaurant, in the private box, balcony or garden of the club, never in public. As every year in Berkshire it is the headgear , the great protagonists of the event. Between feathers, flowers, ribbons and veils for five days a true fashion show is repeated.
The 2018 edition program includes 18 group races, including 8 group 1 races, for a total of 7.3 million pounds in prize money. And that’s not all: to accompany the best horses and the best jockeys from the world there will be the usual glamorous and chic atmosphere typical of English equestrian events, thanks also to the presence of the Royal Family . In total, around 300,000 spectators are expected. The gates opened on Tuesday 19 June at 10:30 and the first race took place, as usual, at 14:30, shortly after the arrival of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. It started immediately with a bang, with three groups 1: the Queen Anne Stakes, the King’s Stand Stakes and the St James’s Palace Stakes. Tuesday 20 June the day was calmer, even if with the expectation of Prince of Wales’s Stakes, considered one of the most important races in all of Royal Ascot.
Thursday 21 is the day of the historic and prestigious Gold Cup, while the following day the mares involved in the Coronation Stakes will take to the track, as well as those who will race in the Commonwealth Cup. Finally, Saturday 23 June there will be the grand finale with the Diamonds Jubilee Stakes , one of the largest sprint races in the world . It should be added that it is also the first social event for the new royal, Countess of Sussex, Meghan Markle; for the 2018 edition, Queen Elizabeth, 92, was accompanied by Princess Anne and, in another carriage, by the new Dukes of Sussex together with the Earls of Wessex, Harry’s uncle and his wife Sophie. The queen was presented in canary yellow, while Meghan Markle, 36, in black and white, her most loved colors. Among the royals, of course, Prince Charles with Camilla, the daughters of the Duke of York, Eugenia and Beatrice and the dukes of Kent also arrived.
